"ORIGININULL"- A SIMPLE BUG THAT ALLOWS HACKERS TO READ ALL OF YOUR FACEBOOK MESSAGES CHAT

TECHBYTE: A security firm Cynet found a critical vulnerability in Facebook Messenger that allow the attacker to read all your personal messages affecting the privacy of one billion Facebook users. Facebook has fixed this issue after reporting by security by security firm.

                     Did you ever imagine that just by a running a website in your browser your all Facebook messages can be read by attacker and you will never know about this , no matter whether you are  using Facebook’s mobile app or web browser. Because these flaws affected both the web chat as well mobile application.

                      For example, if the user opens a website to which the hacker has directed them (via a malicious ad, a security issue, or the hacker’s own website), the hacker can then see all the Facebook Messenger chats, photos and other attachments which the user sends or receives. This happens even if the user sends the messages by way of another computer, or from their personal mobile device!

             Earlier this week , Ysrael Gurt, the security researcher at BugSec and Cynet , reported a cross-origin bypass attack against Facebook Messenger that allows hackers to access your chat, photos and attachments as well. With the help of messenger  Facebook manage the to replace the conventional text messages. Now around one billion active users trust Facebook for their conversations.

        The hack, dubbed “Originull,” enables an attacker to access and view all of a user’s private chats, photos and other attachments sent via Facebook Messenger. Dubbed “Originull,” potentially affects millions of website that use origin null restriction checks and exposes the website visitors to malicious elements.

“This security flaw meant that the messages of 1-billion active monthly Messenger users were vulnerable to attackers,” said Stas Volfus, Chief Technology Officer of BugSec.
“This was an extremely serious issue, not only due to the high number of affected users, but also because even if the victim sent their messages using another computer or mobile, they were still completely vulnerable.”

          Usually, the web browser protects  us from such hacks by only allowing Facebook pages to fetch the information. But, due to this bug, Facebook opens a bridge that allows the sub-sites of the social network to access the information.

                The main issue was misconfigured cross-origin header implementation on Facebook’s chat server domain, which is allowing the attackers to bypass the origin checks and access the Facebook chats from a malicious website.

THE NEW 'HTML 5.1' HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO REPLACE 'HTML 5' , AS THE NEW W3C RECOMMENDATION

TECHBYTE: The new standard version of HTML  has been published by W3C as the new recommendation. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has declared the HTML 5.1 as the new official version of HTML with lots of new features to replace HTML 5.

                 HTML is the World Wide Web’s core markup language known as Hyper Text Markup Language. HTML is used to design webpages. The previous version of HTML was HTML 5. Now W3C has been come with its newer version HTML 5.1. 

        The World Wide Web said that this specification defines "the 5th major version, first minor revision of the core language of the World Wide Web: the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)". In this newer version new features has come to help the web application authors, following its previous version.

          In the advanced version of HTML new elements have been introduced based on research into prevailing practices. As compared to previous version of HTML , the latest version hasn't come with lots of features. There are a few features you can get excited for.

        The latest version brings the three main features that are the < picture >, < dialog >, and the < summary > & < details > combo tags. Some other features has been removed and some changes are made in the older version .

CRITICAL VULNERABILITY IN WINDOWS DISCOVERED BY GOOGLE.

TECHBYTE: Google has disclosed a critical vulnerability in windows that affects Windows kernel. The windows bug has been reported to Tech giant about 10 days ago but it hasn't fix by Microsoft yet. After waiting the days after reporting Google has finally told people of that bug in windows .

         Search engine giant Google has posted critical vulnerability in the Windows kernel, an integral part of the operating system. The bug is Windows Kernel  can be used to escape security sandbox. Google warns Windows about that vulnerability on October 21, but Windows hasn't fix that issue yet.

In the technical term the bug vulnerability as fallows

"The Windows vulnerability is a local privilege escalation in the Windows kernel that can be used as a security sandbox escape. It can be triggered via the win32k.sys system call NtSetWindowLongPtr() for the index GWLP_ID on a window handle with GWL_STYLE set to WS_CHILD. Chrome's sandbox blocks win32k.sys system calls using the Win32k lockdown mitigation on Windows 10, which prevents exploitation of this sandbox escape vulnerability."

       

       Sandbox is a computer security term used to refer to the limits placed on users of applications and processes. Thus, a sandbox escape refers to breaking out of the virtual system and infiltrating others. Google's Chrome browser actively blocks the "escape" on Windows 10, but those using other browsers and other versions of Windows remain susceptible to an attack.

"This vulnerability is particularly serious because we know it is being actively exploited," Google said in a blog post on Monday. 

     This is not the first time Google has reported on bugs in Microsoft's operating system. Google has also reported  Adobe about the Flash vulnerability CVE-2016-7855 on October 21 and the same has been patched. To fix that users need to simply update the Adobe Flash on their  and it will also be available via Chrome auto-update.

WHAT DOES REFRESH OPTION ACTUALLY DO IN WINDOWS. IS IT LIKE THAT WE THINK ?.

TECHBYTE: We have habit of continuously refresh windows by pressing f5 button . Does it really do same things as we thing . We all think that by pressing f5 button  it refresh our windows system and increases computer system speed. That's totally wrong. In this post you will know what refresh option actually does?.

                      It is our very common habit that people continuously refresh windows thinking that it clears memory and makes it fast. Even  I don't  know how many  times  i  press f5 button in my machine. But it was shocking to know that what it actually means. 

     Actually  Windows has an auto-refresh feature inbuilt by Microsoft which enables the screen to display the changes. All Microsoft operating system( OS)  have this refresh option in its context menu and we do it several times in a day. Windows this inbuilt feature enables screen to display changes made to a folder even  desktop is just a folder for your operating system.

                  Refreshing the desktop is actually used to update the display  after a change. Refreshing the desktop does not mean to renew the condition of RAM  and do not clean computer or your computer refreshing. Therefore refresh the desktop does not contribute any increase in performance on computer performance.

           

          If you go for other operating systems like Linux based Ubuntu you will not found  this feature because Linux-based operating systems don’t have it.  Everything you see on your desktop as a component contributing to the creation of a image are can say a Frame . Frames are displayed on your screen one after the other giving you a feel that everything is continuous.

       When each frame is constructed, all the components are placed on it, like first the background, then the icons and their names. Due to all the things  are  placed within every frame. Therefore, a technique of optimization has been created which merely marks elements that needs to be changed for the next frame  The next frame is then recreated with these changed components, The Refresh Option, activated by pressing the F5 button, is exactly this optimization technique created.

 To understand the function of windows refresh option  i am giving you a simple example-

      For example if you have set the shortcut on the desktop to its name in alphabetical order.And when you add a new shortcut on the desktop, new shortcut will not be directly sorted in alphabetical order, but will be at the bottom of the list of shortcuts.Then If you hit the refresh button the desktop, all the shortcuts will be reset again and a new shortcut that will occupy a position according to order.This is a function of the actual desktop refresh button. In addition, the refresh also have the same function in windows Explorer.

    So I hope know you know what refresh button actually does, if  you have a habit of doing refresh on your desktop many times then feel free of it and do it when you feel it is in need.
